Different types of corporate headshots
I’ve been a Corporate Headshot photographer in London for over ten years, working in offices and workplaces across the city. Whether you are welcoming new team members, or celebrating the launch of a new department or office, arranging for updated images keeps your brand engaging and relevant.
Why should your business have professional headshots?
Professional images of your team create a great first impression, and they make staff feel seen and valued. The images will help you represent your brand, engage your staff and give a human face to your company. Your customers often want to see the people behind the brand, so having photos of your staff on your website helps to creates a sense of connection, quality and professionalism.
Another really important, and sometimes overlooked benefit is the value they give to your staff. As well as being represented on your website and in marketing materials, individuals could also use their photos on their Linkedin profiles, and as part of their contact information.
Different headshot styles
Since I started working in the industry over ten years ago, things have evolved quite a lot – and this has definitely been a change for the better! Companies used to only ever consider stiff poses, grey backgrounds and serious faces, now there’s the chance to show a bit more personality and make the images really engaging and genuine.
When you book your session, you’ll have a choice of different background colours and styles, here are a few examples of the most popular ones.
Headshot against a light grey background
A light grey backdrop is one of the most favourite type of backgrounds with a soft lighting and it can be easily recreated again when new starters join the company.
Headshot against a pure white background
A firm favourite that i do each month, 12 months a year! These type of headshots are great for making your portraits pop out of the website. Also they are easily able to be cutout and put onto websites or new articles.
Environmental portraits against a work setting
Creating portraits in the office or the work place is showing a great mixture of who working within the company and also where they work.
The classic black and white headshot
Black and white headshots also works well for companies that want the classic headshot that would never look dated.
Portraits against a colourful backdrop
I always enjoy producing headshots against a more contemporary background like blue because they look great on clients about me pages and also on Linkedln because they can easily jump off the screen.
Posing
When people turn up for their session, I’ll chat and put them at ease – one of the first things people usually say is that they ‘don’t like having their photo taken’, or they ‘don’t know how to pose’. My response is always the same – ‘Relax, don’t worry, I’ve been doing this for a long time and I’m confident we can get some shots you’ll love!’
I’ve also written an article on how to prepare for a corporate headshot photography session, that might be a handy point of reference.
You don’t need to have any modelling skills or experience and there isn’t a set formula for posing, I’ll try and capture you looking relaxed and natural. One thing I always do is get people to turn their shoulders at an angle – otherwise it can feel a bit like a passport photo, and that’s not what we want! I also let people review their images on my laptop, which is hooked up to my camera as I shoot, that way they can check they are happy with the images and we’ll keep shooting until we’ve got something they like (as long as we have the time).
Other photography services
I’ve started doing a lot more corporate photography in London that captures what happens behind the scenes in the office and workplace. Companies use their images in their internal and external communications materials, and on their websites to show how their company works.
Images like this are also really useful for recruitment campaigns, so potential candidates can see what it’s like to work for you. I can capture meetings, presentations, breakout areas and additional facilities you offer, showing your staff enjoying the benefits of working for your company.
I also work as an event photographer in London, covering everything from commercial and business events to award ceremonies. You can check out some of my recent work on my blog, including when I was commissioned by the Australian High Commission to provide natural event photography at Australia House, with Jason Donovan as the guest of honour.
